I'm Stefanie, and I will be on a Rotary Youth Exchange in Argentina from 25th of August 2011 to July 2012. I created this blog so that friends and family can know what I'm doing, as well as to give some important advice to future exchangees. My mother tongue is German, although I'll try to keep my blog in English, and some articles either in German, French or (one day) Spanish.

Blog - what for?
At the moment, I am asking myself for what reasons people write blogs.
You cannot write everything on the Internet, you should be careful about what you write.
So, if a blog is kind of an online diary, and if you cannot write everything you would write into a diary, what sense does is make to write a blog?
And who would read your blog actually? Actually, above all friends should be interested in what is written on your blog. What if they do not want to read your posts?
Is that a sign of lack of friendship? Or rather a proof of friendship?
Does this friend show simply disinterest in your life? Or rather interest in your personal stories, the ones you tell only this person, and not the whole world?
To be honest, I cannot respond to those questions. But I have been asking them myself since a good friend of mine told me that he would not have time to become a member of my blog...

E-Mail from my host family
So, today I finally got a message from one of my host families. Well, actually my counselor responded to the email I sent him, but he turned out to be my host father! :-) And I was already wondering why my host family had not answered for more than 2 weeks.
Now I'm happy. In fact, I will have at least two host families.
However, the family who wrote me will be my last host family, but I also got to know my first host family. I was told their name, so I looked up for them on Google and then on Facebook, and I found the children ... and - what a funny coincidence - the daughter has a friend in common with me, an Argentinian boy I met in London in February. In what a little world we live!
Furthermore, I know that I will live in Chivilcoy, which is located in Greater Buenos Aires, approximately 160km from the "Capital Federal". But I will write more about this in another post.
Today is Sunday, the 31st of July, 2011. I've just noticed that probably I will start school tomorrow in 4 weeks ... and I am really looking forward to it! I know it may sound crazy, but I have been missing school since I passed my final exams...
As far as I know, we will have some kind of school uniforms in Argentina. I do now know if I like them or not, though. I love Japanese school uniforms, as you can see them in movies or animes like Sailor Moon, but I think that the school uniforms in Argentina will not look like that. Well, it will be a surprise for me.

My very first post
This is my very first post on my new blog. Excuse me some mistakes, I have never ever written a blog before today. I'm an absolute beginner in this matter.
Actually, I don't know where to start, but maybe I should write about my aims concerning this blog.
To begin with, my blog has three target groups: first of all my friends and family, secondly future exchange students, and last but not least all other people interested in an exchange student's life.
My mother tongue is German, but I'll try to keep the blog mainly in English (so, please excuse some spelling or grammar mistakes), so that everyone has the possibility to read it. It could happen that I write in French or German sometimes - or, maybe in some weeks or months, in Spanish - but this should not prevent you from reading my blog. Just copy and past it into the famous Google translator.
So, I've just published my first post and I must say ... it's not that bad actually.
However, I still have to change something, if only I knew what...
Today is the 29th of July 2011, I'll go to Argentina yesterday in 4 weeks. At the moment, I am studying more or less hard for my driving licence, this is why I cannot be absorbed by exchange year preparation. I do not know if that is good or not, but if I pass my driving licence without any problems on the 11th of August, I still have two weeks to pack and to buy the last important things. And if I fail on the practical driving exam, I have a problem, because in Austria, you have to wait at least two weeks before you can take the exam again ... so, I could take it the day I leave for Argentina, which would be kind of impossible.
Well, I do not want to bore you with driving licence stuff, I will publish a new post once I have something interesting to say.
Hasta pronto, amigos!
